Incredible place! I took the upstairs tour and did the matcha making experience which I highly recommend. Toby on staff was very personable and friendly and made the experience shine. The tea is some of the best i’ve ever had and they do everything with quality. If you’re looking for a great tea shop in Uji look no further.

Went there because I got a 10% off coupon discount from purchasing the osaka kyoto keihan 1 day pass Bought a small bottle of matcha powder for 30 bucks ( apparently the owner said is the 2nd best matcha powder they have). Have not tried it but will get back on the quality of tea)

Really nice tea shop, where you can see tea leaves being processed/grounded and try it yourself, drink some tea etc. for a reasonable price. If you can speak Japanese there is also a small museum with the history of the shop and the the family linage. The current shop owner is very proud of the family-run aspect of the business, and it was genuinely endearing to hear him talk about his grandchildren and their ties with the business too. Lovely stop if you every visit Uji. (We could speak Japanese, and all the explanation was in Japanese, however, there may be someone who speaks English that works there).

Top matcha experience despite unassuming look. We tried other commercial ones which has more dessert choices but this one has the best matcha on its own.

Very interesting shop with lots of history! We we're lucky enough to tour the museum upstairs and enjoy a short session with the proprietor who taught us to use the large granite grinders to grind our own matcha powder, which we then whisked and drank in the traditional way.Not the widest selection, but this is because they are focusing on products from their farms.
